What you'll learn

The work is hands-on and happens on our own grounds. You'll learn how plants are raised, fed and kept healthy — and how a nursery is run.

  • Plant propagation — raising new plants from cuttings, seed and division.
  • Composting — turning waste into healthy soil.
  • Fertilization — feeding plants correctly and at the right time.
  • Mulching, mowing & pruning — the maintenance that keeps plantings healthy.
  • Types of ornamentals — identifying and caring for the plants used in landscaping.
  • Introduction to equipment — using and maintaining the tools of the trade safely.
  • Nursery management — running a growing operation from day to day.

Who it's for

  • Anyone in Antigua & Barbuda who wants to work with plants, from beginners upward.
  • People already working during the day — classes run two evenings a week.
  • No experience needed, just a willingness to work outdoors.

Where it can take you

  • Work in landscaping, grounds maintenance or a commercial nursery.
  • Take on private garden and yard maintenance work of your own.
  • Move on to Climate Smart Agriculture to add crop production and hydroponics.
