What you'll learn
Beekeeping is learned at the hive. You'll work with live colonies, build your own equipment, and take a harvest through to a labelled, priced jar.
- Introduction to beekeeping — how a colony works and what it needs from you.
- Management of bees — keeping colonies healthy through the year.
- Parts of the hive — how a hive is put together and why.
- Equipment for beekeeping — the kit, and how to use it safely.
- Bee box construction — building your own hive boxes.
- Developing colonies from swarms — capturing and establishing new colonies.
- Making honey — harvesting and processing a crop.
- Climate smart agriculture — bees in the wider growing system.
- Business enterprise, packaging, labelling, costing & pricing — selling what you produce.
Who it's for
- Anyone in Antigua & Barbuda curious about keeping bees, beginners welcome.
- Growers wanting to add pollination and honey to what they already do.
- People comfortable working outdoors and around live bees.
Where it can take you
- Keep your own hives and sell honey, wax and related products.
