What you'll learn

A short, practical course. You'll make soap from the first week, and by the last you'll have a product with a label, a price and a place to show it.

  • Basic chemistry of soap making — understanding what's happening, so you can adjust it.
  • Soap making techniques — the methods and the safety that goes with them.
  • Working with local natural resources — producing soaps from what grows here.
  • Packaging & label design — presenting a product built to sell.
  • Business enterprise — turning a craft into a small operation.
  • Costing & pricing — knowing your margin before you set a price.
  • Intellectual property management — protecting your brand and recipes.

Who it's for

  • Anyone interested in making a natural product they can sell.
  • People looking for a short course — six weeks rather than twelve.
  • Beginners; no chemistry background needed.

Where it can take you

  • Sell handmade soaps at markets, craft fairs and to visitors.
  • Supply gift shops, guesthouses and hotels with a local product.
  • Build a small natural products line with support from our Business Development Unit.
