What you'll learn

A shorter, focused course for people who can already sew. The emphasis is garment construction — getting a piece to fit properly and finish cleanly.

  • Layout, fitting & pattern adjustment — adapting a pattern to a real body.
  • Taking body measurements — measuring accurately, the step everything else depends on.
  • Fabric cutting — cutting for garment construction without waste.
  • Lining & finishing techniques — the details that separate homemade from well made.
  • Setting & sewing sleeves — one of the hardest parts of a garment, done properly.
  • Side & patch pockets — adding pockets that sit flat and hold up.
  • Invisible zippers — inserting a zipper in a back or side seam.
  • Buttonholes — sewing buttonholes and related finishing.
  • Full garments — basic shirts, blouses and skirts from start to finish.

Who it's for

  • People who have completed Beginners Sewing, or who already sew confidently.
  • Anyone wanting to make clothing rather than household items.
  • Working people — classes run Monday and Wednesday evenings for six weeks.

Where it can take you

  • Take on garment commissions, alterations and tailoring work.
  • Make clothing to sell at markets or to order.
  • Build toward a small dressmaking business of your own.
